THE
PHILLIP A. TRIPP DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The Phillip A. Tripp Distinguished Service Award
is presented annually by OCPA to a student affairs professional
in recognition of distinguished service to the field of Student
Affairs. The purpose of the award is to recognize seasoned members
of the profession. The selection criteria for the Phillip
A. Tripp Distinguished Service Award is as follows:
- A
minimum of fifteen (15) years of professional involvement in the
field of student affairs.

Significant and outstanding contributions to the profession through
administration, writing, teaching, research and service to professional
organizations.
The
committee may select up to two (2) recipients in a given year. However,
the award is not to be given out of necessity as it is designated
as a special award. The nominee need not be a member of OCPA or
have spent his or her entire career in Ohio. However, the nominee
must have made a significant contribution to the profession in the
state of Ohio during the span of his/her professional career.

THE
GERALD L. SADDLEMIRE MENTOR AWARD
The Gerald L. Saddlemire Mentor Award is presented
annually by OCPA. Gerald L. Saddlemire was an effective administrator,
a true scholar and educator, and a mentor who accepted each person
as a unique individual and believed that the ability and potential
of each professional is Student Affair’s greatest asset. This
Gerald L. Saddlemire Mentor Award is presented to the Student Affairs
professional who embodies and advances the true spirit and ideals
of Dr. Gerald L. Saddlemire . The selection criteria for the Gerald
L. Saddlemire Mentor Award is as follows:
- Serves
as a mentor and role model to graduate and/or undergraduate students,
and other student affairs professionals
- Known
as a supportive and educational administrator

He/she has made significant contributions to the ideals of the
student affairs profession
Although
the recipient need not have been working in Ohio during his/her
career, the nominee should have made significant contributions in
the state of Ohio.

THE
MARK G. NOFFSINGER NEW PROFESSIONAL AWARD
The Mark G. Noffsinger New Professional
Award is presented annually by OCPA. Mark G. Noffsinger
was one of the founders of OCPA. As president-elect in 1979-80,
Mark was one of several who initiated the New Professionals Conference
which was held regionally in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Berea. Mark
served as President in 1980-81 of OCPA. The selection criteria for
the Mark G. Noffsinger New Professional Award is
as follows:

THE
FAYETTA PAULSEN ACCOMPLISHED LEADER AWARD
The Fayetta M. Paulsen Accomplished Leader Award is presented annually by OCPA. Fayetta M. Paulsen was a founder
of OCPA and first president in 1976-77. Fayetta is the only person
in Ohio who has been president of all three state personnel associations-
OAWDAC, OASPA and OCPA. The Fayetta M. Paulsen Accomplished Leader
Award is presented by OCPA to a Student Affairs professional who
has exhibited outstanding leadership in meeting the varied and emerging
needs of today’s students. The individual has made innovative
contributions to the field of Student Affairs and to his/her institution.
The selection criteria for the Fayetta Paulsen Award is as follows:
- He/she has made significant contributions to the field of Student
Affairs and to the institution
- Acts as a role model to students and professionals
- Demonstrates leadership and innovation in the field by meeting
student’s needs

THE
INNOVATIVE PROGRAM AWARD
The Innovative Program Award is presented annually
by OCPA to a student affairs professional who has initiated a new
program or unique approach to a challenging situation and/or specific
campus concern or need. It is the goal of OCPA to recognize innovative
and effective approaches that help university officials meet the
changing needs of students on college and university campuses. It
is also an opportunity to highlight good administrative and other
practices and share different approaches to meeting student needs
with colleagues at other institutions.
The selection criteria for the Innovative Program Award
is as follows:

Description of the challenging situation and/or specific campus
concern or need
- Explanation
of how the program or policy addressed the identified concern
or need

Evaluation of the policy or program including suggestions as to
how the policy or program could be modified to become more effective

Description of how the policy or program could be implemented
on other campuses

The Robert F. Rodgers Graduate Student of the Year Award
is presented annually by OCPA. As graduate students become more
actively involved in creating the future direction of Student Affairs,
OCPA has committed to recognizing their professional achievements.
OCPA presents The Graduate Student of the Year Award in recognition
of the dedication and unlimited energies of a full-time Ohio graduate
student, masters or doctoral candidate, in the field of student
affairs, college/student personnel or a related field.
The selection criteria for the Robert F. Rodgers Graduate
Student of the Year Award is as follows:

annually by OCPA. This award is presented to an undergraduate student
leader who is enrolled in an Ohio higher education institution and
has demonstrated leadership, contributed to student affairs on his/her
campus, and has a desire to begin a professional career in Student
Affairs.
The selection criteria for the Undergraduate Student Leader
Award is as follows:

The Cultural Diversity Award is presented annually
by OCPA to an individual and/or campus community that has successfully
developed innovative courses, programs and/or services that promote
multicultural understanding and appreciation across the curriculum
and/or campus. The award is given to honor individual and/or community
leadership in developing creative and effective programs that address
and/or improve cultural diversity issues in higher education.
The
selection criteria for the Cultural Diversity Award is as follows:
- Description of the specific campus, community or organizational
diversity need or issue
- Explanation of how the person, program or service contributed
to addressing student and/or campus diversity need(s) or issue(s):
- Provide information regarding the individual and/or campus
community efforts to promote understanding and responsiveness
to cultural diversity issues
- Demonstrate
how the person or program encouraged student, faculty, staff,
alumni and/or community involvement
- Describe
how the person or program enhanced the appreciation of cultural
diversity as a way of life on the college or university campus

OCPA FACULTY AWARD
The OCPA Faculty Award is presented by OCPA to a faculty member in recognition of exemplary performance and contribution to the field of Student Affairs both in and outside of the classroom. Faculty provide graduate training that prepares individuals for leadership in shaping the future of higher education. Faculty teach students how to apply knowledge and to advance the role of higher education in supporting the public good, and improving institutional practice.
The OCPA Faculty Award will be given to the individual who:
- A full-time faculty member in any Ohio College and/or University who possess comprehensive knowledge about higher education as an enterprise and demonstrates a combination of academic knowledge with individual action
- Demonstrated scholarly research and improvement of instruction in higher education and student affairs.
- Significant and outstanding contributions to the profession through administration, writing, teaching, research and service to professional organizations.
- Mentors and prepares students for research and self-directed learning
- He/she has made significant contributions to the ideals of the student affairs profession.
