International Students: Academic Affairs or Student Affairs?
– Oftentimes, international students are perceived to be a
“separate” student population on campus. Consequently,
they are often overlooked as a resource for campus programming and
leadership development opportunities. Join us for a discussion about
current issues affecting International students and how both academic
and student affairs can work collaboratively to serve this group.
Panelists:
- Robert
L. (Bob) Queen, International Initiatives and Community Outreach,
Columbus State Community College
- Jennifer
Adams, International Education, Capital University
- Mariam
El-Shamaa, International Education, Ohio State University

Mentoring Programs as a Retention Tool – Peer Mentoring

have been successful and how similar programs can be developed on
your campus.

The Island of Multicultural/Minority Affairs – This
panel discussion will examine the unique challenges of working in
Multicultural/Minority Affairs. These practitioners provide leadership
in promoting institutional diversity and retaining students of color.
However, these administrative tasks are often viewed as exclusively
the responsibility of the Multicultural/Minority Affairs officer.
Furthermore, students and other institutional divisions often undervalue
these offices.
Panelists:
- Khasif
Khan, Asian American Student Services, Ohio State University
- Darryl
Peal, Minority Student Affairs, Ohio Wesleyan University
- Detra
West, Ethnic Diversity Affairs, Hiram College
Also,
