OCPA's
25th Anniversary Celebration:
Reflecting
on Our Past to Envision Our Future
As
OCPA celebrated its silver anniversary during the 2001
Fall Conference, over 160 OCPA members, past
presidents, student affairs faculty and graduate
students and new members joined in at the party…and
what a party! It began with recognition of 12 past
presidents in attendance including our first president
and ACPA Diamond Honoree, Fayetta Paulsen and
ended with our current President, Scott Smith.
Keynote speaker, Robert Gatti laid the
foundation for a memorable conference by taking us
down the path of 25 years of OCPA memories.
After
27 educational sessions and an enlightening featured
presentation by Dr. Steven Michael, ACE Fellow
and Kent State professor, the social networking
marathon began! At the Past President’s Reunion,
past presidents Joanne Risacher and Susan
Eklund-Leen were seen talking with Kent VP Nancy
Scott and CSU VP Dr. Njeri Nuru-Holm while
graduate students wandered over to the City Centre to
catch some shopping before the Silver Reflections
Anniversary Reception. Once everyone made their way
over to the Ohio State Capitol, OCPA guests were
treated to fancy finger foods fit for a king and
historical tours throughout the Capitol.
After
an extremely restful night sleeping on the Westin
Hotel’s famous “heavenly bed” and a try at the
“heavenly shower,” conference participants
attended three more rounds of concurrent sessions
before settling in to the final Awards Luncheon in the
Grand Ballroom…and it was grand! Awards Chair, Jacqui
Slinger presented the Innovative Program and
Diversity Award to Capitol University, Kelly Pero
(Graduate Student of the Year), Tracy Benner
(Accomplished Leader), Meghan Houghton (New
Professional), and JoAnn Kroll (Mentor Award).
Mike Patterson (Grad Member at Large) presented the
first place prize to Jodi Gill and Miriam
Williams for the Robert A. Dubick Case Study
competition with the assistance of Conni Dubick
of KSU.
President
Scott Smith shared his outlook on and accomplishments
by OCPA during his term and shared his visions for the
organization’s future. And as the OCPA planning team
closed it’s 25th Anniversary Conference,
we were happy to hand it over to the capable hands of Ava
Jean Fiebig of Xavier University who will serve as
the 2002 Conference Chair!
Thanks
All and “Happy Anniversary OCPA!”

Emerick, 2001 Conference Chair
